Summer Speaker Series

We are pleased to have three speakers visit Our Redeemer on Sunday mornings in July and August.  Please plan to join in lively conversation with each of these speakers in the Sanctuary immediately following the 10:00 Worship Service.
  • July 13 – Rev. Anaïs Hussian – Community Chaplain at Abiding Missions. Anaïs is a United Methodist Deacon, ordained to a ministry of Word, Service, Compassion, and Justice.  In her work at Abiding Missions, Anaïs is passionate about listening to and honoring people’s stories, connecting neighbors with resources to meet their needs, and helping them navigate their personal and spiritual journey at all ages and stages of life. Abiding Missions is a nonprofit organization that serves the Allentown and South Hilltop neighborhoods of Pittsburgh.  We provide opportunities for fresh food for our neighbors, a winter warming center, an adult breakfast fellowship group, and enriching programming for children and youth.  Through our support in the neighborhood, we envision a community that is healthy, vibrant, and connected where everyone’s social, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs are met.
  • August 10- The Rev. Dan Rift - ELCA Director for Congregational Generosity (He previously served as Director of ELCA World Hunger and the Lutheran Disaster Appeal.)
  • August 24 – Mr. Ryan Ebner - Regional Gift Planner for the ELCA Foundation

Abiding Missions

Abiding Missions has been serving Pittsburgh’s Allentown neighborhood for more than ten years. Abiding Missions has had a huge impact on the Allentown neighborhood, providing ministries that strengthen the community while supporting individuals and families. Their ministries include a Food Pantry, After School, Adult Breakfast Fellowship, and a Community Choir. Monetary donations can be sent to Abiding Missions, 731 Excelsior St, Pittsburgh, PA 15210.

Blessings in a Backpack

Did you know that 1 in 6 children do not get the food they need every day? Through school-organized programs, Blessings in a Backpack helps by providing food to children who do not have enough to eat over the weekend. Our Redeemer collects your donations in support of the program at Ringgold Elementary School North so that they can send home bags of 8-10 food items to supplement weekend diets for the kids. When the program resumes in September they will need:

  • Ready-to-eat cans (with pop tops for easy opening) or microwavable cups of Chef Boyardee Pastas and/or Mac and Cheese
  • Applesauce or fruit cups/squeeze pouches
  • Chicken salad with crackers packets (shelf-stable)

Monetary donations are also appreciated and used to buy food in bulk. They can be made here

or can be mailed to:
Blessings in a Backpack
PO Box 950291
Louisville, KY 40295

**Must designate for Ringgold Elementary School North account #1440 on checks to be directed to us**

City Mission

The City Mission has opportunities for kitchen helpers on weekdays/nights and weekends. If anyone is interested, they should contact Samantha Carroll, volunteer coordinator at the Mission at [email protected].   Any questions may be directed to Keith Mason at 412–965–6592.

Are you looking for a service project that you can do from the comfort of your home? If so, consider making a meal for the homeless sheltered at the City Mission. Containers and recipes (if needed) are available in the church narthex (on the shelf next to the Lost and Found box). You prepare a meal for the size container and bring it to the church’s kitchen freezer. We will then deliver it to the City Mission. For information about the City Mission and other ways to help, visit their website.

City Mission Food Pantry

Our Redeemer has been providing donations to the City Mission Food Pantry for many years. They really look forward to our contributions each month. Non-perishable food items that are staples in everyone’s kitchen are so helpful: canned vegetables, fruits, spaghetti sauce, cereals and more! Donations can be placed in the large brown bins in the church narthex. We have volunteers who take the food to Washington, usually twice a month. Thank you for your help!

Meals on Wheels of Peters Township

Meals on Wheels of Peters Township delivers meals to senior citizens in Peters, Canonsburg, Houston, Lawrence, Finleyville, and parts of Eighty Four, Bridgeville/S. Fayette, Bethel Park, and Upper St. Clair. They currently serve up to 160 clients every weekday and can easily sign you up to receive meals over the phone.

The only requirement for meal service is having trouble shopping or cooking. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. They offer hot regular or diabetic meals consisting of soup, entrée, salad, dessert, and milk. They add no salt to their food and can accommodate some special needs as well. They make much of their food from scratch and strive to serve a healthy, attractive meal.

To learn more about receiving meals or volunteering, call 724-969-1000, email or visit their website!
